Wave scattering by many small bodies: transmission boundary conditions
نویسنده
چکیده
Wave scattering by many (M = M(a)) small bodies, at the boundary of which transmission boundary conditions are imposed, is studied. Smallness of the bodies means that ka << 1, where a is the characteristic dimension of the body and k = 2π λ is the wave number in the medium in which small bodies are embedded. Explicit asymptotic formulas are derived for the field scattered by a single small scatterer of an arbitrary shape. Equation for the effective field is derived in the limit as a→ 0 while M(a)→∞ at a suitable rate.

Wave scattering by many small bodies
Abstract Wave scattering by many (M = M(a)) small bodies, at the boundary of which an interface boundary condition is imposed, is studied. Smallness of the bodies means that ka << 1, where a is the characteristic dimension of the body and k = 2π λ is the wave number in the medium in which small bodies are embedded. Equation for the effective field is derived in the limit as a → 0, M(a)→∞, at a ...
متن کاملMany-body wave scattering by small bodies and applications
A rigorous reduction of the many-body wave scattering problem to solving a linear algebraic system is given bypassing solving the usual system of integral equation. The limiting case of infinitely many small particles embedded into a medium is considered and the limiting equation for the field in the medium is derived. The impedance boundary conditions are imposed on the boundaries of small bod...
متن کاملMany-body wave scattering problems in the case of small scatterers
Formulas are derived for solutions of many-body wave scattering problems by small particles in the case of acoustically soft, hard, and impedance particles embedded in an inhomogeneous medium. The case of transmission (interface) boundary conditions is also studied in detail. The limiting case is considered, when the size a of small particles tends to zero while their number tends to infinity a...

متن کاملWave scattering by small impedance particles in a medium
The theory of acoustic wave scattering by many small bodies is developed for bodies with impedance boundary condition. It is shown that if one embeds many small particles in a bounded domain, filled with a known material, then one can create a new material with the properties very different from the properties of the original material. Moreover, these very different properties occur although th...
